2017 is shaping up to be the most eventful year for the Winston Salem Chess Club, with 3 events being marked in the sand for the benefit of both local and state chess players. Along the regular meetings and the community casual play slated for the weekdays (in 2017 because of the holidays), we have some new events in the works.
The first event is the Piedmont Elites, Two 3-round Quads (section of four players that play each other once), the participation of which is limited to those between 1800 and 2199 USCF! Our desired date is Saturday, January 21, at the Miller Park Rec Center This is an opportunity for Class A players to face some strong competition, and for strong experts to possibly reach master level! This will be an invitational event, but will be very interesting to watch. A Blitz tournament and refreshments are possible. The winners of the two quads will have a blitz playoff. Prizes, Fees and more details are in the works.
The next event is a Club vs Club Match between the Winston-Salem Chess Club and the Greensboro Chess Club. The President of GCC is all for this event, and players (Class A/Expert, Class B, Class C, Class D, Class E) for the WSCC side will be selected before the New Year to allow time for club practice; our five players will be listed here when they commit. The desired date for this Saturday, February 4, with the location to be announced. GCC better bring their A-game!
Finally, we have the Camel City Open, the newest 3-round tournament in North Carolina This will be open to all members of the USCF, and takes place Saturday, February 18, at the Greentree Church and Community Center. Find all the information you need here.
